Loving The Three Sisters

I was teaching at Yale yesterday. But I was also taught. During a visit to the Yale farm, I learned about The Three Sisters companion planting arrangement. This ancient American technique plants “direct sow” corn, beans and squash in a pattern together. Each supports and nourishes the other, to enhance their overall good. On the one hand, I wished that all of human life could only work this way — working together for mutual benefit. On the other hand, I am grateful to see this at work in my life, through my wife, Beth, and her sisters Nancy and Jan.
